Bromeliads are a fascinating species of plant grown for their weird and wonderful asthetic characteristics. With over 2400 different species available in Australia, there is a bromeliad to suit every gardeners taste. Bromeliads foliage takes many different shapes, from needle like to broad and flat, symmetrical to irregular, spiky or soft. The foliage is growin in a rosette which is the most patterned and colored of any plant in the world. Bromeliads come in every colour under the sun and can take on many different shades throughout their lifespan.. The most common varieties have spots, stripes, blotches or gradients of differnt colours  and can produce either throats of colour or flowers. Upright stalks may be branched or simple with spikes retaining their color from two weeks up to twelve months, depending on species.
