.JPG) | Heliconia is a genus from the ginger family comprising of over 200 varieties or species. They are a highly sought after plant in tropical or exotic landscapes and are native to many islands in the Pacific Ocean. The leaves of Heliconias can range from 15 to 30 cm in length and their flowers are produced on long stems consisting of brightly colored waxy blooms. Heliconias can produce the most spectacular foliar displays and bloom in almost every colour imaginable. The Heliconia 'Red Christmas' is a shorter variety with darker green foliage complimented by red & white flowers. The Heliconia 'Golden Torch' is a taller variety with lime green foliage and, as the name suggests, golden flowers. Two of the most common forms of Heliconis are the varieties 'Red Christmas' or 'Golden Torch' - both available from Eplants Trade Nursery in 200mm & 300mm pots. |
.JPG) | Hibiscus varieties are medium sized shrubs that are well known world wide for their spectaular blooms. Their flowers are large and trumpet-shaped ranging in colour from white to pink, red, purple or yellow and every shade in between. Many species are grown for their showy flowers or used as landscape shrubs. Hibiscus vareities enjoy a sunny position, however too much heat and constant direct sunlight can cause them to reduce their bloom. With some varieties growing up to 3m in height, Hibsicus varieties have many uses and are attractive as hedges, ornamental pot plants, screens or topiaries.  | Preferring full sun or part shade, Hymenocallis varieties are better known as 'spider lillies' and are seen often in Australian gardenscapes. This particular form of lily is a native of the West Indies, often planted in clumps to form boarders in gardens, along roadsides and in round abouts. It has dark green strap-like leaves growing up to 80cm in length. Each blub can produce up to 12 flowers. These plants thrive in moist yet well drained soil. Attractive, exotic looking, fragrant white blooms appear above lush broad, strap- shaped leaves. Hymenocallis 'littoralis' & 'speciosa' are available at Eplants in 140mm & 200mm pots. |
.JPG) | Ixoras are a popular variety of tropical evergreen shrub used commonly within Australian landscapes. They are hardy plants with glossy, leather-like foliage and mass clusters of small, brightly coloured blooms. Some varieties are sutiable as hedges, such as the Ixora coccinea, and are sometimes used in Bonsai gardens. With many varieties growing up to 2m in height, Ixora's like to be pruned and fertilized often, allowing them to perform at their best.  | Thriving on very little water, the Kalanchoe 'flap jack' is one of the most popular succulent varieties available within the landscape industry. It is a hardy and drought tollerant form of succulent that is very low maintenance and suitable in pots or in the ground. When exposed to cold temperatures, the Kalanchoe 'flapjack' produces glaucous blue-green foliage with pink edges developing into a red margin as the leaf matures. Fantastic as a rockery plant, it prefers a sunny position and can tollerate harsh, coastal conditions. Available at Eplants Trade Nursery in 200mm pots. |
